For Autumn/Winter 2017, Mary Katrantzou takes her inspiration from fantasia, the idea of mixing and melding different worlds, themes and ideas, cross-pollinating different kingdoms of thought. Leading her naturally to the classic Disney 1940’ s animated ‘ Fantasia’ . The cinematic score underlines the entire collection, juxtaposing fantasy with the strength and resilience of the femme fatales of 1940’ s film noir. Drawing inspiration from the wardrobes of heroes, heroines, charming princes and damsels in distress, the collection interplays the masculine and feminine in fantastical fusions finishing with Swarovski embroidered ethereal dusk-to-dawn gradient gowns styled over tailored trousers. The collection is a flight of fancy, a dive deep into the imagination. A fashion fantasia.
Showing in the industrial tanks underneath the Tate Modern, the circular space is transformed into a film noir fantasy with moody lighting, a black backdrop and completed with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra to set the cinematic mood.
